Girl Plus Environment Secures $15,000 Grant from Earth Rising Foundation to Advance Diversity in the Climate Sector

Atlanta, GA, April 3, 2024 - Girl Plus Environment (GPE), a national nonprofit dedicated to empowering Black and Brown girls, women, and non-binary individuals in the fight for climate and environmental justice, is pleased to announce that it has been awarded an $15,000 grant from the Earth Rising Foundation as part of their Climate Intersections program.

The grant will enable GPE to address a critical gap in the climate sector that disproportionately impacts communities of color, particularly women of color. Despite the profound implications of climate issues on these communities, there remains a significant lack of representation, especially concerning women of color, in key decision-making roles within the climate sector.

"At GPE, we recognize that achieving true climate solutions, fostering equity, and making informed decisions all hinge on having a diverse range of voices at the table," said Diamond Spratling, Executive Director at Girl Plus Environment. "This generous grant from Earth Rising Foundation will allow us to bridge this gap in representation and address the pressing need for diversity in the climate sector."

GPE plans to utilize the funding to create digital campaigns, further develop their GPE Community Hub, expand membership, and strengthen their mentorship program. These initiatives will empower Black and Brown girls, women, and non-binary individuals to actively participate in environmental justice conversations, decisions, solutions, and leadership roles.

The grant from Earth Rising Foundation underscores their shared commitment to amplifying existing and emerging voices demanding a future based on cooperation and care for each other and the planet. Through material support for climate activism and initiatives that raise awareness about the climate crisis, both organizations are working to address climate change systemically and inclusively.
