Empowering Black + Brown Women + Non-binary Folk to Stand up for Environmental Justice
GPE Summer Practicum
Location: Remote Workspace (candidate must be located in the metro Atlanta area, no exceptions)
Duration: May 2023-August 2023 (flexible) for 10-12 hours a week
About the Role
Girl Plus Environment (GPE) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and national community that shares educational resources, tools, and information to encourage Black + Brown girls, women, and non-binary folx excited and engaged in all forms of environmental justice. Our goal is to educate, engage, and empower Black + Brown girls, women, and non-binary individuals to stand up for environmental justice in their own neighborhoods. We create and share free, easily accessible tools, resources, and information to our community in creative ways!
Girl Plus Environment (GPE) is looking for a Summer Researcher to help support our Black Hair Project. The Black Hair Project is a government funded project set to educate Black hair stylists about the harms of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) found in hair products that have adverse health implications on Black women. The researcher will be responsible for assisting our team to conduct and analyze qualitative and quantitative research, design training and create a toolkit for Black hair stylists, as well as support our educational “pop-ups” across metro Atlanta.
The individual will report to our Program Lead and execute the following:
Responsibilities

Analyzing survey responses

Support with finalizing literature review

Recruit and schedule interviews with our target audience

Assist with transcribing and analyzing interview data

Help to organize our (3) in-person pop-up events

Helping to design training curriculum and toolkit

Any other responsibilities agreed upon by the individual and the organization
Our Ideal Candidate

Undergraduate or Graduate student
-
Proficient in Google Docs, Google Drive, and Google Sheets
-
Experience conducting qualitative research and collecting data using qualitative platforms (MAXQDA, NVivo, etc.)

Experience analyzing quantitative data
-
Highly organized, reliable, and able to work independently

Strong interpersonal communication skills
-
Willingness to work some evenings and weekends

Strong interpersonal skills, experience meeting deadlines, and the ability to multitask

Creative, energetic, and a good fit for the GPE Team
Nice to Have

Experience planning and executing in-person workshops/events
