We’ve Got the Receipts. Here’s How You Can Join the Movement!🧾

November 2025

ree

2024-25 has been a huge year for Girl Plus Environment. From training young leaders, to amplifying environmental justice campaigns, GPE has been building the tools and infrastructure for Black and Brown women+ to shape their own environmental solutions. In this post, we’re celebrating how our members took action and sharing how you can deepen your involvement through membership, donations, and spreading the word.

This year, GPE has created, launched, and completed three powerful training programs:

  • The Mane Issue: a targeted initiative addressing the health risks posed by Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) found in hair and beauty products predominantly used by Black women

  • Black Girl Business x Clean Energy: fellowship equipping Black women business owners with the tools to integrate clean energy solutions into their businesses.

  • The Gulf South Climate Advocacy Cohort: training 25 young women of color (18-29) to become climate leaders by developing inclusive climate adaption plan for Alabama

Together, these programs have engaged over 700 community members, fellows, and cohort participants across the country!

We also know that not everyone can join a fellowship or cohort just yet so we hosted several community activation events open to all in our hub cities. Two examples of these events are EJ Day at the Capitol in ATL and Clear the Air series in LA.

Environmental Justice Day at the Capitol

In partnership with the Georgia Coalition for Environmental Policy and Protection, our GPE girlies met directly with legislators to:

  • Advocate for a study committee on the cumulative impacts of pollution

  • Support the Bad Actor Bill, which targets harmful permit holders

  • Demand a Consumer Utility Counsel at the Georgia Public Service Commission

We’re currently strategizing for Environmental Justice Day at the Capitol 2026. Stay tuned to learn how you can get directly involved in shaping policy at the state level in GA!

Clear the Air: Culture, Convos, and Community Action

Last spring, our Clear the Air series marked GPE’s first major community engagement project in South LA.  In partnership with the California Air and Resource Board, Aclima’s $27 million dollar Statewide Monitoring Initiative is mapping neighborhood air pollution block by block, giving residents the data and tools to advocate for cleaner air and stronger environmental policies in their communities.

We engaged over 70 community members in dialogue around air pollution and local environmental health. Many expressed that their communities are often overlooked and emphasized the importance of continued research and community-informed air monitoring. There was clear excitement about having more opportunities to gather in culturally relevant ways that blend environmental justice with joy, art, and healing. We also have to shout out our LA Fellow Ogechi Hubert for being our eyes on the ground and helping bring this event together.

This year, we launched member-written blog posts featuring the voices of our Energy Justice Ambassadors. These stories have quickly become some of our most-viewed content, with over 240 reads.

GPE member Ennie Akinnuwi even gave us an inside look at her first NYCW Week experience!

We’re always looking for members to contribute to our Girl vs. The World blog. Got a topic you’re passionate about or want to share a “day in the life” story? Fill out this form and we’ll work with you to turn it into a published post on our site and amplify it across our social media channels! 💕

Make a Donation or share our vision with your community to keep the momentum going!

P.S. Did you know that if all 700 of our members donated today, we’d hit our goal of raising $10,000 by the end of 2025? Every contribution, big or small, brings us closer.
