Dr. Ashley Carmenia
(she/her)
Program Director
Dr. Ashley Carmenia is a seasoned public health leader and equity advocate with over a decade of experience advancing community-centered solutions in population and women’s health that has been recognized by USA Today, CDC, and NACCHO. With diverse programmatic experience, she brings a system-level approach to addressing the social, environmental, and structural factors that shape health and opportunity in black and brown communities. She has led and supported initiatives across maternal and child health, chronic disease prevention, workforce development, and community-based education -- translating equity-focused research and policy into programs that are community-rooted, sustainable, and impact-driven. Dr. Carmenia is committed to strengthening community partnerships, educating, and ensuring that women+ are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to steward their environments and lead transformational change. Her leadership emphasizes collaboration, cultural humility, and accountability—grounded in the belief that environmental justice and gender equity are inseparable. Dr. Carmenia holds a Doctor of Health Science with a specialization in Rural Health from Campbell University and a MPH from the University of New England.

Teresa Evans-Hunter brings over 20 years of non-profit management expertise to her passionate advocacy for a more sustainable and equitable world. Throughout her leadership roles at national and international trade associations, she has demonstrably impacted financial management, the creation of impactful education programs, and the cultivation of strong stakeholder relationships. Her dedication is further evident in her service on numerous boards and task forces supporting youth, the unhoused, and the association management sector. With a strong academic foundation including a BS in Economics from Florida A&M University, an MS in Non-Profit Management, and an MBA from the University of Maryland Global Campus, Teresa is particularly invested in empowering girls to engage with environmental issues, believing this will foster a generation of powerful advocates for our planet. In her personal time, Teresa enjoys gardening, reading, and playing golf.

Diamond is the founder and executive director of Girl Plus Environment, where she inspires women of color to champion climate and environmental justice. Growing up in Detroit shaped her mission to dismantle health, racial, and environmental inequities in communities of color. With over a decade in the sector, Diamond is a two-time TEDx speaker, author, and award-winning activist. Her recognitions include the Yale New Horizons in Conservation Award (2021, 2022), Young Nonprofit Professionals 30 Under 30 (2022), and 40 Under 40 Young Gifted and Green (2023). Her work includes collaborations with Bloomberg Associates, CDC, WaterAid International, and the City of Atlanta, where she serves on the Clean Energy Advisory Board. She is also a 2024 Tom’s of Maine Incubator Awardee, NRDC E2 1Hotels Fellow, and Aspen Institute Future Leader Climate Fellow. Diamond is a sought-after speaker, with engagements at the United Nations, The Academies, Microsoft, and Hasbro. Her work has been featured in Essence, Inc. Magazine, and 1Hotels, reflecting her ongoing commitment to advancing environmental justice and creating lasting change.

Little Miss Dora the Explorer
Danait is a passionate advocate for environmental justice, dedicated to creating a sustainable and just future for Black and Brown communities. As a Metro Atlanta native and the daughter of Eritrean immigrants, she has a deep understanding of the racial inequities and health disparities faced by communities of color. With a robust background in student organizing and community building within environmental justice spaces, her experiences at The Nature Conservancy, The Greenlining Institute, and as a Doris Duke Conservation Scholar have reinforced her commitment to diversifying the environmental field to be more inclusive of BIPOC communities. Danait is a graduate of Vanderbilt University, holding Bachelor of Arts degrees in Medicine, Health, and Society and Gender and Sexuality Studies, with a minor in Environmental and Sustainability Studies. As the Community Manager at GPE, she oversees a membership of over 400 members nationwide, managing events and the community hub to keep us connected and thriving in the fight for climate justice—believing that collective healing and liberation can come from building community!
